What Parenthood Taught Me about Entrepreneurship

Chiugo Anthony Nwokolo, Publisher, SUCCESS STORIES BLOG
Being a dad, I've noticed an absolute and direct correlation between being a parent and being an entrepreneur. It changes you for the better, but that doesn't mean it doesn't come with its own set of challenges along the way.
When you're starting out, you're excited but scared at the same time. You lose countless hours of sleep and you don't always know what to do next. Sometimes you just need a break, and other times you can't imagine spending any time away from it. It disrupts your life, but it improves it at the same time.

Then somehow, you get through those early stages and you begin to see the results of your hard work. As it grows, so do you - but new sets of challenges arise at the same time. Things don't always go according to plan, you get stressed, and you can go from having zero energy to being full of energy and pride, all within a 24 hour time period.
But if there's one thing I learned about business and parenthood more than anything else it is this:
It takes massive patience.
Sure, it takes hustle too, but I don't really like that term because too many entrepreneurs believe "hustle" is just all about working hard and feeling busy, when really it comes down to what you do and how it's moving the needle.
There's a common belief that you have to work yourself to the ground, sacrifice all sleep and neglect your loved ones in order to succeed, and I don't believe that. Not one bit. Especially that last part.
I do believe in choosing your priorities wisely, being conscious about where you spend your time and always playing for maximum output (not maximum input).
And most importantly, understanding that you need to be patient, like a parent who wants to stay sane throughout the entire journey.
But, if you're ready to nurture and develop your business (or as entrepreneurs like to call it, your baby) into a fully developed part of your life that you and others around you can be proud of...well, you're in the right place.
