What are the benefits of tithing and the consequences of not tithing?
Is tithe applicable to both the old and new testament?
What is tithe meant for?
Who spends the tithe?
What about if i donate my tithe to charity works and Charity Homes instead of giving it to church?
All these and many more are what we shall discover from this message in line with the word of God?
These days i hear a lot of disparaging comments against ministers of God and Tithing. And i think is high time i make some things clear, because the issue of tithing is a critical one.
I will share my understanding from God's word on tithing.
What is tithe? Tithe is the tenth part of any profit a christian earns from his farm, job or business etc. Tithing is a command by God and its in both the old and new old and new testament. Its a covenant between man and God. In other words, Its a sign that you love and appreciate God and acknowledge that He (God) owns you and whatever you own. Its an act of worshiping and acknowledging God that he is your source. That you appreciate the privilege you have to use his properties, such as; your life, His land, air, sun, rain, power and spirit etc to create and earn the harvest or profit. And not by your power. That is why you need to acknowledge and honour him with your substance -Prov. 3:9.
For more insight and understanding of tithing from the scriptural point of view, please see Malachi 3: 7-11, Hebrew 7:1-9. Let me expound this with revelation from by the Holy Spirit about tithing and giving because this is the ground and stronghold where Satan and his agents are standing on to destroy and devour the finances, businesses, career and even the peace and joy of many people, even the believers (Born Again) children of God are not exempted.
I always read comments and reactions of people whenever any issue concerning giving, tithing and sowing with their money is raised especially in churches. Many consider it as abomination to discuss money in the church talk less of asking people to give money in the name of tithe, offering, seed or first fruit. But I came to realize that giving is an avenue for God to bless and multiply our seed. Financial prosperity does not answer to fasting and prayer but to sowing and reaping. No wonder, John 12: 24 tells us "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. Also see Luke 6:38.
I understand from God's word that money answers all things. It is written "Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the Lord shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem - Zechariah 1:17. I observed that without money a church can not run services, evangelize, as money is needed to pay for hall rentals, fuel the gen set, equip the church with chairs and other instruments and even for the pastors salary or allowance to be paid, to enable him feed and pay his bills.
As the Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 9:9 For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? Actually, tithe is meant for catering and supporting the less privileged people in the church, taking care of the salary or allowances of the pastors or priests as well as for propagating of the gospel to the unsaved. As far as every living person needs money to exist the living church of God also needs money to meet its objectives. Even our Lord Jesus Christ had a treasurer during his earthly ministry and that affords him renting of the upper room for their fellowship then.
However, one can decide to be part of it or not, as there are blessings attached to obeying and investing in the kingdom of God. Its a covenant deal and its have its rewards.
Benefits of Tithing
It rebukes the devourer for your sake,
It opens the windows of heavens to release divine blessings and ideas to its practitioners - Malachi 3:7-11.
It attracts the blessings of God
Let me close with this analogy; the Holy Spirit used to reveal this mystery to me and inspires me to teach and share this to the world. For instance, I gave you a piece of farmland to cultivate and plant your yam seedlings and we agreed that whatever you harvest from the farmland shall be split into three you take two and I shall take one part. But after harvesting the farm produce you decided to sit on the whole harvest breaching our agreement. That is what happens when you dont pay your tithe. You breached the deal God establish with us through our father Abraham.
The owner of the land is the Lord God, as well as you, the sun, the rain, the air, the spirit and the energy you used to achieve that harvest all belongs to God. Therefore, you are obligated to return to the Lord at least 10 percent of any harvest you got with his gifts and creatures.
To this end I implore you to return the tenth part of all your income to the Lord God as a prove of your love, worship, appreciation, covenant and trust in Him and prove Him (God) now herewith that if He ll not open unto you His good treasure and pour unto you the blessings you shall not have room enough to contain. By the grace of God ever since I entered this covenant with my Lord He has proved himself in my life.
This is why God reminds us the deal he had with us through our father Abraham; But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
In view of the foregoing Bible passage we are implored to remember the Lord our God in any income or wealth we create for He is the one that gave us the power to get wealth in order to confirm the covenant deal He (God) entered with our father Abraham that in blessings He will bless him and in multiplication He ll multiply him and his seeds after he to sacrificee Isaac - Gen 22:1 - end.
Why Are Most Believers Not Tithing?What then is stopping us from actualizing and appropriating that covenant deal to partner, covenant and involve God in our finances, business, career, ministry and life for him to bless us with blessings beyond what money can buy? I think its; ignorance, faithlessness, greed, stinginess and fear of loss and the devil that is hindering many people accessing the supernatural provision and protection of God which is accessible to us through tithing!
